Regulation sets the legal/compliance framework your SDS is written to — it drives the classification rules, hazard phrasing, and formatting the generated document follows. It's required in Section 1, and it's independent of the Country field beside it — picking a Country doesn't filter or auto-fill Regulation, so you choose both yourself.
There are currently 8 supported regulations:
OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard at 29 CFR 1910.1200 — for products sold in the United States only.
OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200) & WHMIS 2015 HPA and HPR — a combined option if you sell into both the US and Canada.
According to WHMIS 2015 HPA and HPR — Canada, under the Hazardous Products Act and Hazardous Products Regulations.
Great Britain Classification, Labelling and Packaging Regulation (UK) — the UK's post-Brexit CLP regulation.
REACH Annex II as amended by Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/878 — the EU's SDS format under REACH.
UN Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) — the general international baseline; a safe default if no specific national regulation applies to you, or you're not sure yet.
According to Japan Industrial Safety and Health Law (ISHL) — Japan.
Work Health and Safety Act 2011, Australia — Australia.
Rule of thumb: pick the regulation that matches the country or market you're actually selling or shipping into. If you sell into two markets that don't have a combined option, you'll typically create a separate SDS (or a regional version) for each one.
