What does “Select Preset” do when adding ingredients?

Select Preset sits right next to Add Chemical in Section 3 (Ingredient Details). Instead of manually searching for a substance and typing in its CAS number every time, it lets you pull straight from your own Substance & Mixture Library — click it, then click Add next to whichever entry you want.

It has two tabs:

Substances — individual chemicals from your library, each showing its CAS number (or “No CAS number” for substances you added without one) and hazard codes. Adding one opens a small Add Substance Percentage dialog: enter the Percentage (%) (this becomes the Actual %) and, optionally, a PDF Percentage (Displayed) — leave it empty to just show the actual value.

The Substances tab — each item shows its hazard codes; Add opens the percentage dialog

Mixtures — pre-blended combinations you've saved before (for example, a 55%/45% toluene/xylene blend), each showing how many components it has. Expand any item to see its exact saved breakdown.

Adding a mixture works a bit differently: since its components already have fixed ratios, you instead enter what percentage of your final product this mixture makes up. ExactSDS multiplies each component's saved ratio by that number for you, live, before you even click Apply.

30% of this mixture in the product = 18% propan-2-ol + 12% propan-2-one, calculated automatically

A PDF Percentage (Displayed) override is available here too — it applies to every component in that mixture at once, and if you type a range or comparator (like “12<=15”), the numbers scale by your mixture percentage while the symbols stay in place. There's also a Proprietary blend checkbox if you don't want the exact composition disclosed.

Once applied, the mixture appears as a single collapsible row in your ingredient table — expand it anytime to see each component's own Actual %, PDF %, and hazard codes.

One important limit: Select Preset only shows up for Hazardous Products. If your Product Type is set to Non-Hazardous, Section 3 only offers Add Chemical — no preset button, and no Hazard Code column at all — since presets pull hazard-classified entries from your library, which only matters once you're building a hazard-classified SDS.

Non-Hazardous Product: no Select Preset button, no Hazard Code column
Non-Hazardous Product: no Select Preset button, no Hazard Code column
