What do the H, H*, S, E, and D badges on my SDS list mean?

These are separate from a Risk Evaluation's own H/S/E rating — they're auto-computed badges shown on your SDS lists (My SDS, All SDS, Hazardous Substances) and on each SDS's detail page, read from the SDS text itself rather than from anything you've assessed:

  • H Health risk rating
  • H* Health risk (handling) — the same health rating but excluding oral/ingestion hazards, since handling a product isn't the same exposure route as swallowing it
  • S Safety risk rating (flammable, explosive, temperature, pressurised, nuclear-type hazards)
  • E Environmental risk rating
  • D Disposal category — Normal (D1), Special (D2), Environmentally hazardous (D3), or Hazardous waste (D5)

Hover any badge for a tooltip breaking down exactly which H-code drove the number — for example, hovering an H*2 badge on a live SDS showed "Health risk (handling): 2 — Excludes oral/ingestion hazards," then listed the specific codes underneath it: "H319 (2) — Causes serious eye irritation" and "H336 (2) — May cause drowsiness or dizziness." If one looks wrong for how you actually handle the product, an owner or admin can correct it: click any badge to open the substance detail view, then use the edit pencil next to the Health risk rating / Health risk (handling) / Safety risk rating / Environmental risk rating / Disposal table to update any of the five values directly (there's also an "Apply edits on this SDS to all instances of same SDS" checkbox if the same SDS appears in your library more than once). Corrections are logged in the SDS's own change log (a "View change log" link sits at the top of the same detail view).
