How does SDS Manager map to the UK COSHH Regulations (6–13)?

If you work under the UK's Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002, both the Risk Evaluation and COSHH Assessment pages show which regulation each part of the tool is built to evidence:

1 Covered by the Risk Evaluation (substance-level)

  • Reg 6 Hazard identification — H-statements, hazard categories, and pictograms are read directly from the SDS.
  • Reg 7 Hierarchy of controls (substance level) — substitution considerations, recommended engineering controls, and PPE for the substance.
  • Reg 10 Workplace exposure limits — WEL references from the SDS are surfaced alongside the substance's properties.
  • Reg 11 Health surveillance triggers — CMR and respiratory-sensitiser flags raised here propagate to every COSHH Assessment that uses the substance.

2 Covered by the COSHH Assessment (activity-level)

  • Reg 6 Suitable and sufficient assessment — the activity, substances involved, exposure pathways, and rated risk before/after controls.
  • Reg 7 Prevention or control of exposure — the full hierarchy of controls recorded per procedure, with the residual rating shown after controls.
  • Reg 8 Use of control measures — linked PPE icons and engineering controls, each with a custom label for the specific equipment specified.
  • Reg 9 Maintenance, examination and test of controls — review-cadence dates and a per-procedure audit log.
  • Reg 10 Monitoring exposure — linked exposure assessments capture monitoring data where WELs apply.
  • Reg 11 Health surveillance — CMR and respiratory-sensitiser flags surface automatically from the linked SDSs.
  • Reg 12 Information, instruction and training — a training-required flag plus read-receipt tracking evidences that the workforce has read and understood the assessment.
  • Reg 13 Emergency procedures — first-aid, fire-fighting, and accident-response narratives are captured per procedure and included in the printed COSHH report.

This is a reference summary only — always check current HSE guidance (the L5 Approved Code of Practice) and any sector-specific COSHH essentials for your work.
