How does SDS Manager identify restricted chemicals in our products?

SDS Manager checks your library against restriction lists including ZDHC, California Proposition 65, REACH Annex XVII, and more. It extracts the CAS and EC numbers from Section 3 of each SDS you use and checks whether those numbers appear on any of the restriction lists.

The Hazardous substances page gives you a prospective list of every product in your library that needs assessing, with the regulation it was flagged under 1, GHS pictograms 2, and the matching CAS/EC numbers 3. You can filter by location, regulation, SDS status, or risk evaluation, export the list to XLSX, and once you've reviewed a flagged product, use the Risk column 4 to open it and mark its SDS as "Approved" to clear it from the outstanding list.

  • 1 Filter by regulation — ZDHC, Prop 65, REACH Annex XVII, and more
  • 2 GHS pictograms for the flagged chemical
  • 3 EC/CAS numbers matched against the restriction list
  • 4 Risk column — opens the review/approval view

The full set of lists is much bigger than "ZDHC, Prop 65, REACH" suggests, and every one of them can be switched on or off individually in Settings → Regulatory lists to check ingredients to. The current selector has 90+ named lists, organized by country/region:

  • Global — GLAPS, GADSL, OECD PFAS, ZDHC
  • United States (~30 lists) — Prop 65, TSCA Inventory + TSCA 6(h) PBT Rule + TSCA 8(a)(7) PFAS, EPCRA 302/304 EHS & 313 TRI, several EPA PFAS lists (PFAS75S1/S2, PFASINSOL, PFASINV), EPA Clean Air Act HAPs, EPA Drinking Water Contaminant Candidate List, EPA RMP List, OSHA Highly Hazardous Chemicals and the Z-1/Z-2/Z-3 Tables, CPSIA Lead & Phthalates, CalSAFER, CERS Data Registry, plus state-specific lists for California, New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Washington
  • European Union (~16 lists) — REACH restricted substances, REACH Authorisation list, REACH Annex IV Submitted Recommendations, ECHA Candidate list, SIN List, ROHS restricted substances, EU POPs Regulation, EU Battery Regulation, EU Packaging Directive, EU Toys EN 71-3, EU FCM 10/2011, and five separate EU Cosmetics annexes (prohibited, restricted, colorants, UV filters, preservatives)
  • United Kingdom — UK EH40 WELs, UK Poisons Act 1972 Schedule 1A, UK Water Quality Regulations 2016, plus a separate "European Union UK" toggle for REACH Annex XVII
  • Australia (~20 lists) — SUSMP schedules (Cosmetics, Schedule 7, Schedule 10), WHS Schedule 10/11 (carcinogens, restricted HazChem, health monitoring), WHS Asbestos Ban, FSANZ Schedule 19 (metals, toxicants, non-metals), APVMA Restricted Chemicals, Chemicals of Security Concern, Ozone Protection Act, HCIS, AU WEL/WES exposure standards, and separate toys/textiles/finger-paints/food-packaging lists
  • Canada (~11 lists) — CEPA toxic substances (Schedule 1 & 3), CEPA PCB/Mercury/Asbestos regulations, CCPSA lists for children's jewellery, phthalates, lead, and surface coatings, and the Cosmetic Hotlist (prohibited & restricted)
  • Switzerland — Anhang 3 & 7 chemical lists, BAT-Werte, MAK-Werte
  • Vietnam — five lists covering prohibited, restricted, hazardous, declarable, and conditional chemicals

Each list has its own on/off toggle in Settings, so if a list isn't relevant to your industry or region, you can turn it off rather than seeing it flagged on the Hazardous substances page.
