What is Disposal Classification, and how are the categories determined?

This page automatically sorts every SDS in your library into one of five disposal categories, based on pattern-matching the hazard codes and disposal-section text in the SDS itself — not on anything you configure by hand:

  • 1 Category cards — Hazardous Waste, Environmentally Hazardous, Special Disposal, Normal Disposal, Not Yet Computed
  • 2 Export to CSV
  • Hazardous Waste — triggered by H400/H410/H420-type codes
  • Environmentally Hazardous — lower-severity aquatic-toxicity codes (H401–H413), requiring environmentally safe disposal
  • Special Disposal — the SDS itself contains P501/P502/P503 disposal instructions, so follow what the SDS says
  • Normal Disposal — no special disposal requirements identified, can go via the normal waste stream
  • Not Yet Computed — the classification hasn't been run for this SDS yet

This feeds the "Disposal Classification" slice of your Compliance Health Score, and the same category letters (D1–D5) show up as badges elsewhere — see what the H/H*/S/E/D badges mean.

The exact H-code-to-category mapping logic runs server-side; treat the groupings above as general guidance rather than a definitive rule for every SDS.

Requires Premium or higher — see the plan comparison; not available on Free or Basic. Like PPE Suggestions Review, the product's own advisory notice says this is pattern-recognition guidance, not a substitute for checking the original SDS or a qualified professional.
