Can I document job or work procedures involving hazardous chemicals?

Yes — you can create a Job Procedure (shown inside the product as a COSHH assessment) to document work involving chemicals — or non-chemical hazards, like electrical work — in line with REACH, OSHA, and COSHH.

1 Describe the job on the General tab

Give the procedure a frequency 1, how long each session runs 2, and a plain-language description of the COSHH assessment itself, the job steps, the hazards, and the controls 3 — filled in below for a "Priming epoxy floor" example. The tab bar across the top is where the rest of the procedure lives: Locations & Users, SDS, Chemical hazards, Risk Assessment, Exposure, and a Change log.

  • 1 Frequency of the job procedure (Daily, Weekly, Monthly…)
  • 2 Classification of duration per session
  • 3 Description of the COSHH assessment, job steps, hazards, and controls

2 Link the locations and users it applies to

On the Locations & Users tab, add the location(s) where the job is performed 1 and the users who'll carry it out 2. Once a user is added, they get an email asking them to confirm they've read the procedure 3 — so you end up with a clear, dated audit trail of who's been briefed.

  • 2 User assigned to carry out the procedure
  • 3 "Confirm I have read" link — completes the audit trail

3 Link risk-assessed chemicals and non-chemical hazards

On the SDS tab you can only link chemicals that already have a risk assessment (built the way the previous question describes) — SDS Manager offers to pull in a Full or Basic copy of that risk-assessment data when you link it. If the work involves non-chemical risks too — electrical, manual handling, and so on — the Chemical hazards tab lets you add those hazard types directly, alongside the substance-based ones.

4 The rating rolls up automatically

The procedure's overall risk rating 1 is pulled from the highest-rated hazard across everything linked to it, both before and after controls, plus a separate storage-risk rating 2 and the combined PPE/controls icon set 3. Once approved, those controls also show up on secondary container labels for anyone using the SDS Inventory Manager. Newer accounts also get a dedicated Risk Assessment tab for COSHH Regulation 7/10/11 fields (health surveillance, exposure monitoring, review cadence) and a Change log tracking every revision — useful if you need to show an inspector the full compliance history, but not required just to get a procedure approved.

Rebuilt from scratch — the previous version of this answer was built around the wrong feature (a printable risk-assessment sheet). It's been replaced with the real Job Procedure / COSHH assessment workflow at /work-procedures, confirmed against a live example that mirrors the original article's own "Priming epoxy floor" case.
