Launch your SDS library to employees

7 stepsTick each step off as you go — your ticks stay in this browser.

Purpose

Make sure every employee who works with chemicals can open the right Safety Data Sheet immediately, including in an emergency, without an app or a password.

Scope

Library admins and health & safety managers, once the SDSs for all chemicals used and stored in the organization have been added to the online SDS library.

Procedure

  1. Create a QR code poster for each site — For organizations with several locations, generate a separate QR poster per site so it opens the SDSs for that location. Where employees speak different languages, make one poster per language (for example English and Spanish).
  2. Print and post the QR code posters where chemicals are used — The posters are PDF files that print on any colour printer. Scanning the code with any phone opens the SDS library at once: no app or password needed.
  3. Add a link to the SDS library on your intranet — Users can then open the library straight from the intranet.
  4. Announce the library to your organization — Use the standard launch email template. Send it to your own email first, then forward it from your account so everyone receives it from a familiar address.
  5. Train employees — Run regular training so employees know where the SDS library is, understand the SDS format, and know the procedures to follow in case of chemical exposure or a spill.
  6. Give access at the workstation where useful (optional) — Many customers keep a tablet with SDS Manager where chemicals are used, so safety information is a touch away during an incident and for training.
  7. Prepare offline access if needed (optional) — Generate an electronic SDS binder per location so the SDSs can be read without a connection.
